Fast Company dedicated this latest issue to Courage. It made me thing about how technology interferes with our Courage Quotient. I feel technology has given us a shield to hide behind. We can always dodge a call, or delete an e-mail from someone we have conflict with. I am personally guilty of purposely avoiding awkward conversations, and I know I can feel my courage slip.
I hope to address some of these questions at the danah boyd's Digital Identities workshop in Chicago. I think the concept of an avatar confronts many sociological and mental health principals. Are they defense mechanisms or are they healthy representations of self? Questions I am sure will be addressed by those respective fields soon enough.
