Cingular Wireless now offers a date rescue service that will call your phone at a predetermined time and prompt you with dialogue that will help you get out of a date. There are 8 randomized scripts that users will hear, and then repeat to create a ruse, and fool the person they are out with.

According to my fiancé girls have been doing this for years. They go into the bathroom, call a friend and ask for a rescue call 15 minutes later. Technology has caught up. There is a sad truth behind this and that is no matter how efficient communication technology is, it does not preclude good communication. This is just another piece of technology that we can hide behind.

RFID in the 'Real News ' now

Apparently there is only one photo of an RFID tag. It is the one I saw in the August 2 edition of Businessweek, and the August edition of Business 2.0. I have always enjoyed perspective in the media. The comparative articles are great!

Businessweek talks about the Mexican Government implanting high ranking government officials so they can access sensitive anti-crime document centers. Business 2.0 references a Spanish nightclub VIP program using the same technology. The same Spanish nightclub I referenced a few months ago as told by World news Daily . Just goes to show how slow some of the main stream media can be!

ANother mention of Virtual Communitites

It seems that the concepts and ideas that support virtual communities are as futuristic as I thought. While at the World Futures Society meeting in DC over the weekend, I had the pleasure of running into my friend Jerry Paffendorf from the Institute for the Study of Accelerating Change. He did a neat presentation on the evolving virtual community issue.

The people in the audience were futurists by either interest or by trade and all were highly interested in the slides and ideas. Jerry and I threw around the idea of writing a small paper and submitting it to the group for the 05’ conference. I’m already looking forward to it.
