I too recieved a phone call from PLD and as I was speaking with them and so on I looked up this page and found all the similarities with our conversations.....it's scary and I will say that I hung up immediately!! So far our business has had a great service for the past 5 years and apart of paying a few more dollars .... I didn't want to risk a major screw-up just to save those few bucks. Thanks everyone for putting this out there !!

Just want you to know that Perferred is still at it. Received phone call at my place of business just today. I listened till they said they were going to transfer me to vertifcation and that I would be asked peronal info. I terminated the phone call and then found this site. I'm in Illinois. Thanks!

PLD lady said she can lower my rates by around $24 a month. She seems sincere and reliable to call back when she promised. Should I go for it? Some of the comments are good ... most bad.. what to do???

oh, I forgot to include about the PLD lady... she wanted to see my phone bill so I faxed it over to her - it was a Tennessee area code. She then called me back and then said she can save me about $24. Are the good comments real? Are the bad comments real?? How can I know???

Wow they are still calling strong in August of 08 ~ Just a lil bit ago here @ work I got a call from PDL saying they were calling on our PDL/AT&T account ~ I asked them what this was regarding & she said we needed to adjust some charges on your PDL/AT&T account & told me to transfer her to the billing department ~ I then asked her what company she was with, she did say PDL but then quickly added she was calling on behalf of AT&T (which I could tell was bull) ~ {I am pretty good at screening loser telemarketers when they call, they just hate a smart receptionist ~} I told her to hold & then I did a yahoo search & found this site which just confirmed my suspicions ~ I made her sweat it out on hold then told her to take us off the list & hung up ~

It looks like some of the worker bees from PDL found this site because I seriously doubt that the company is legit ~ Legit business do not call around pretending to be another company to get business ~ Sad their workers have nothing better to do than search the web on their own company & their shady ways of doing business, LOL ~

I called AT&T to inform them of the phone call we just received from PLD ~ First thing she said is no they are not apart of AT&T at all & they do not handle any of their business arrangements ~ I told her that is just wrong that they go around pretending to be them (AT&T) ~ She said “oh I know… & that she receives a lot of complaints on PLD, daily”!!!” & you could tell she was upset at PLD ~ I then told her that I wasn’t the only one that answered the phone here at [company name here] & that I am not sure that my other co-workers would recognize the scam & asked if she could put a note in our account incase they tried to transfer the services ~ She then thanked me for taking care of this now instead of further down the line ~ She said most people do not call until they need their charges corrected & account transferred ~

I just got a call from them saying that they were contracted through AT&T. blah blah, I told them I was busy, I wasn't interested, she (rep) kept asking if it was okay that she call me back on Monday, I said "yeah sure". I immediately called AT&T who said as long as I didn't say yes to anything I was okay, because the calls are recorded and they will use that as I did in fact order their service. Nuts! and Grrrr at myself! AT&T told me to look for a letter...until then, Preferred can't do anything about it unless we sign and return. *fingers crossed*

I feel so stupid. I just went through orientation with this company, Preferred Long Distance Telecom. Their headquarters are in Encino CA, according to Mark, the trainer/hardass/manager. This location is at 1555 E. Flamingo Ave, ste 125, Las Vegas, NV. I should have smelt some bs, but got sucked in, as I need a job. After this guy Mark collected our IDs and Social Security Cards, he started the 'orientation'. Then, to all of our surprise (about 10 of us), Mark started dismissing various members of the orientation, telling them they are not a fit for the position. That in itself seems odd, but nothing illegal. But it struck me as shady that we all thought we were hired, in the door. Then this being asked to leave. Now the people were getting their IDs/SScards returned, but who is to say these shmucks didn't already jot down our info. I'm not sure what I can do, maybe talk to the local BBB as a start. BUYER BEWARE!

GREAT, WHAT IT WILL DO IS DROP YOUR LOCAL RATES FROM THE HIGHER RETAIL RATES YOUR ON NOW, DOWN TO THE CHEAPER WHOLESALE RATE WITHOUT PHYSICALLY CHANGING ANYTHING YOU CURRENTLY HAVE OR DO.

WHAT PROMPTED THE CHEAPER PHONE BILL WAS THE FACT THAT LARGER BUSINESSES WHO HAVE OVER 30 LINES SPEND THOUSANDS A MONTH FOR THEIR SERVICES SO IN RETURN THEIR GIVEN A VOLUME DISCOUNTED RATE, ON THE OTHER HAND SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZED BUSINESS WITH LESS THAN 30 LINES PAY THE FULL RETAIL PRICE.

VERY MISLEADING, I FELT VERY BAD SLAMMING CUSTOMERS BUT THE ENVIRONMENT RAN BY FATHER OWNER JUAN BOYER AND JOHN BOYER AND WIFE HOLLY LOCATED IN LAS VEGAS , WAS VERY STRICT. EMPLOYEES WERE FORCED TO STAND UP HOURS OF THE DAY. IT IS A VERY BIG SCAM. THE CUSTOMER ACTUALLY DOESNT KNOW WE DOUBLE BILL THE FIRST MONTH. EVEN AT CERTAIN OCCASIONS WHEN BY LAW YOU HAVE TO HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE OWNER TO CHECK THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPORT, SOME LEAD SHEETS AT THE TIME WERE ALREADY PRE-CSRED. INVASION OF PRIVACY. WOW. YOU CAN FIND THE ROOM AT 2500 FLAMINGO AND MARYLAND PARKWAY, ITS ACTUALLY CALLED J&H MARKETING AND C&C MARKETING AND NAPU COMMUNICATIONS. THE OWNERS ARE JOHN BOYER(FAT GUY THAT IS VERY JEWISH) , FATHER JUAN BOYER(THIEF THAT STEALS RIGHT UNDER REP'S NOSE'S) HOLLY LEVENTRY, WHICH WAS JOHNS WIFE. NOTE THEBUSINESS IS UNDER HER NAME IN LAS VEGAS DUE TO JOHNS HORRIBLE CREDIT AND MISPAYMENTS OF CHILD SUPPORT FOR 11 YEARS. ITS SICKENING. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE COMPLAINTS TO THE BBB THE COMPANIE IS CALLED C&C MARKETING AND NAPU COMMUNICATIONS. I am in Texas. I got a call today from Crystal at 'Preferred Long Distance'. She was selling their LD service and said that if I switched, ATT would reduce the line charge on EACH of my business lines, that I would save $27 to $30 plus tax while incurring a $12.95 charge each month. Prior to this I had no LD charge because I don't use LD on my land lines. After I got her to clearly state that my total cost would fall, I signed up. After I hung up, I called ATT and they told me it was a lie that my line charges would be reduced.

So this is a variation on their scam. I did find their website and it appears they do sell some legitimate phone services. I called their number and they did agree to cancel my order. I don't trust them and will have to check with ATT each day to make sure they don't try to charge my account. I did put a block on any third party charge, but this was all a big hassel.

I have never commented on a blog before, but I had to comment on this. I'm in Illinois and I just received a call from these folks today. Whether or not they're a legitimate company isn't my concern. I used to be a rep for ACN, so I know how this is supposed to go. The person on the phone mostly followed the script, except that she represented the company as if it were affiliated with AT&T. The only reason I didn't call her on it was because it seemed fishy from the moment the phone rang because it showed up on the caller ID as a private number. It wasn't until I was transferred that the guy told me they were Preferred Long Distance. I asked him to send me literature and he sent me to go to the website. I told him I wasn't the type of person to make a decision on a whim and that I had concerns and would need additional information. He assumed I was going to call AT&T because he said "when you call AT&T..." I didn't bother to tell him that I was going to google them.

The fact that they mislead people with the way they go about initiating the call is enough reason for me to say I would never switch. This blog just proves that my not entertaining the idea is the right decision.

Just an FYI - the website for Preferred LD is www.preferredld.com/ (I work for another Telecom provider, and am researching them for our own purpose, so we can port a customer away from them.)

And another FYI: There are companies out there that are called "Resellers;" basically they are a billing provider, but do not have their own facilities; therefore they use other companies (like Qwest and AT&T) for their translations (switching, phone numbers, etc). Vonage is one such company...so is PLD. That is why they will call you and tell you that they are PLD "on behalf of...XXX phone company." Not all resellers do that, and personally, I think it's a stupid tactic to do that; however it might be a part of their contract with ATT or Qwest to do so when selling their services. So there is no need to cause widespread panic when getting a phone call from these people...if you're not interested, just tell them, then add your phone number to the National Do Not Call registry (http://www.donotcall.gov), and be done with it. The Do Not Call registration can take up to 30 days to remove your TN(s) from the lists, but if you mention that you're on it, and they continue to call you, you can then sue for harrassment. There ya go. :)

These people called me from 206-629-8665, I could tell it was a scam right away. I asked for a supervisor and was told that there were none. I was then put on hold, someone named Crystal came on the line and promptly hung up. Here is some extended information on this company;

I AM GLAD I SAW THIS SITE BEFORE DOING BUSINESS WITH PREFERRED LONG DISTANCE. I CHECKED THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU SITE AND THEY HAVE A "D" RATING........... WHY WOULD YOU GO WITH A COMPANY WITH SUCH A POOR RATING.......

FOR PEACE OF MIND I WILL STAY WITH ATT. ATLEAST YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE DEALING WITH A KNOWN COMPANY THAT IS NOT RATED POORLY.

My boss unwittingly fell for the heavy sales pitch from pld. I have been through a months long nightmare trying to get him to go back with Qwest. I feel success was finally reached tonight with a Qwest work order number and a promise that our 40 year same phone number will be on in two days. I have also warned him to hang up with callers wanting to update our yellow pages ad. That is a whole other nightmare.

I have also been called by PLD and had a very pleasant experience speaking with Tiffany in new sales/marketing. However, I decided not to pursue a contract with them based on the reviews. I informed her that the BBB rating was a D and I would check back on that in a few months to see if it was improving. I also told her to read the reviews and post an entry based on her experience with the company. Hopefully this will help someone out!

Thank you! I was almost scammed by this in the new year (2009) by "Curtis" at Preferred Billing- as they called claiming to save me money as they were a new billing service that verizon selected- which would save me 5 dollars a month. what a cumbersome excersise. When the third party representative came on and asked me if I realized that I was changing my LD providor, then I knew something was up- as I have the Freedom plan here at Verizon. I then called Verizon direct to make sure the change did not occur and alas they told me they were getting more of this activity this year than ever before- be careful!

No way!, lol. I've worked for P.L.D. for years man. But I see that there are different call centers. I was told that there were but, i didn't believe it because our call center does so many sales. lol. Man I've never had a better sales job. They treat me with respect, I feel sorry for the people in Las Vegas though. That's is Sad, Whats cool about this call center I work for is the same people have worked here for yrs. Most telemarketing companied have a high turnover rate....not this one! When someone is lieing on the phone we all get up out of our chairs and take care of it. We respect our customers in our call center. I'm not giving you names of who i work for but i will tell you it aint in las vegas, tennessee, or illinois. We are the elite sales reps i guess. Just so all you readers know long distance phone service sales are the hardest sales. So, your always goin to have the second raters try and sell long distance and those are the ones getting all these people to complain. not me or my room. P.L.D. isn't the only long distance company out there. But, I can tell you this I wouldn't be working for them if i knew it wasn't a good deal...oh, and for the receptionist...someone like me gets through to the one I need to speak to. A receptionist don't pay the phone bill. LOL. Thats salesmen didn't know what they were doing.

This company is a scam!!! I worked for them for many years.And the reason why the reps are so pushy is that they are paid upon commission, If they do not meet a sales quota they are subject to being sent home early or termination. If this company calls you request to be put on their DO NOT CALL LIST!!!! Because if you just tell then you're not intrested they will call you back in a few months after they recycle their leads.If you get a call from preferred or a company out of tennessee called C-tel HANG UP!!!! you will be slammed.
