Cancerplan.org

This web portal is a great example of inter-agency cooperation with a single goal in mind.  CancerPlan.org enables States, Tribes, Territories and Community Cancer Control Planners to share resources and tools to effectively develop, implement, and evaluate Comprehensive Cancer Control (CCC) Plans.  This is a collaborative effort between the American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, and the Center for Disease Control.

SLRFL final totals

I am pleased to announce that the final (unofficial since it will probably go up by a dollar or two) totals for the SLRFL are in.  We raised a total of $5,411.00 from our relay event.  The overwhelming majority of that money was raised in lindens by our Relay For Life participants.  We raised just over $4,700.00 in linden donations and I can not be happier!

The American Cancer Society thanks everyone who participated in the event.  We are especially thankful for the support of Keith Morris, and Jerry Paffendorf.  They were able to enlist the services of some of the most talented people in SL including - but not limited to; Csven Concord, Trimda Hedges, FlipperPa Perregine, Lyre Calliope, Hudson Stryker, the SL Air Patrol, and the whole Radio Radio staff.  Thank yous also go to those who built campsites, provided blimp rides, and ran the track.  We were glad to see the return of Torley to SL, and hope that as the community grows, so will the philanthropy.

Thank you all again!

Teranova Blogs again

The Guardian on Second Life Relay For Life

The Guardian Blog has a brief post on the SLRFL.  What amazes me is the speed at which news travels over the digital mediums, and how apparently last minute things seem, but in reality are not last minute at all!

NYT on The Second Life Relay For Life

Mark Wallace writes in the Arts and Leisure Section of the NYT today about the Second Life Relay For Life.  Very excited about the print press and hope that it draws more attention to the event.

Yahoo and ACS Team up in Blog For Hope

Yahoo! Health and the Eastern Division of the ACS have partnered in the 'Blog For Hope' program.  The program is designed to raise awareness of the personal stories of some very well known cancer survivors and caregivers.  I particularly like the volume of comments that are streaming in and their very personal nature. You can read the full Yahoo! press release below in the extended section.

ACS I Fight Cancer Badges

I am very excited about the work of our Eastern Division in pushing Blogging into the front of people's minds.  They have developed these fantastic ACS I Fight Cancer Badges for us to place on our blogs letting others know we have joined in the fight against cancer.  I hope that all of the people that read this post will take the time to follow the link and ad a badge if your life has been touched by a specific type of cancer.

From Lisa Brown's Blog:
We've produced a series of "I Fight Cancer" badges -- for several cancer sites -- with the hope that bloggers will not only post the badge on their site, but also post an entry or two about their cancer experience, honor a survivor, memorialize someone, and/or just raise general awareness.  It's all in the name of uniting in the fight against cancer!

'Bible Games' instead of 'Grand Theft Auto?'

Got a huge kick out of the article on MSNBC regarding the coming wave of Christian moral based video games.  I can appreciate the desire of parents to not want children exposed to violence and the graphic realities of the world they are growing up in.  Part of me agrees, and the other part says 'well then pay more attention to your kids and be involved in their lives' and see how that works out for you.

Ever since the mass push for things such as Semi-intelligent design, ten commandment statues in the court rooms, and proselytizing at the USAF Academy it makes the world a bit uncomfortable if you happen not to be Christian.  I suppose it is a free market economy and what will be bought will be sold.  I do love my new shirt that seems so apropos in light of this.

Siebel Beta Community

I just received an invitation to another Beta-community, the Siebel Users community.  The comedy is that I am not a Siebel user.  Beyond that I did find the message boards very helpful in understanding what it is that Siebel does and how it can be of use to me in the future.  I think that in all organization that user forums supported by the company are tremendously important as sources of insight and user feedback that does not need to be solicited.  The challenge is doing a good job of mining the posts and acting on the suggestions and comments.
