As I plunge head first into Andrew Hargadon's 'How Breakthroughs Happen' I seem to be seeing things through a collaborative group innovation perspective. I revisited something neat I saw this summer but really did not sink extensive investigating time into. The Arden Institute at Indiana University is being headed and developed by our favorite virtual economist Ted Castranova. Yes the same Ted who said Everquest has an economy larger than Bolivia.
The innovative thing about them is the way they are developing a multidisciplinary approach to understanding and shaping the synthetic worlds. In their fall Ludium they engaged both academics and game designers in a quest to understand how to improve the worlds as well as tap their economic potential. I applaud their work and hope to score an invitation for the second Ludium, whenever it may be.

I have to laugh. After reading your post, I had to go to the library and pick up the book. I loved The Tipping Point and I think I'll like this one as well. Anyway, I just got home from the library and I turned on the TV. What should be playing? The Simpson's episode where Homer wanted to out-do Edison. At one point, the museum guide said "how many people does it take to invent the light bulb? One!" Gotta love coincidences.
