With each Wired news article on Second Life the economic development gets kicked up one more notch. The proliferation of economic opportunities seem to be limited to the creativity of the ever expanding user base. From sources I hear the SL world is experiencing a 1% daily growth rate on a base of nearly 125,000 users. If the growth rate continues in a linear fashion we are looking at an unsharded virtual community of nearly 500,000 by 2007. In a nonprofit point of view this is a community the size of Cleveland Ohio. I am enjoying the rapid community growth and it presents us both great challenges and opportunities for civic engagement. I look forward to the next Second Life Relay For Life. I feel it will top the 2005 event in terms of income and more importantly participation.

what's next? a second life reality tv show?
