A friend of mine sent over some information about Giving on the Go which is powered by Red Fish Media. He sent this over because he knows my background in social software and non profit enterprises, and that I will be critical of what I find.
A major hurdle that I faced years back was that any type of donation via phone was directly tied into the carrier network. There was no infrastructure that supported the system. For a lot of folks we were frustrated that we could not implement meaningful awareness and revenue campaigns because of systematic challenges. I like how GoGo has made giving easy, and am particularly pleased to see the Mobile Giving Foundation is endorsing the product. My questions are always going to circle around cost of the system to the charity, privacy, and how the relationship can be extended.
I have not seen a cost structure, but an fairly sure GoGo will take a percentage of the donation as a management or program fee. My main questions of course are how they got it done (hard work I am sure!), but most likely a lot of relationship building with wireless telcos.
I will keep my eyes on GoGo and Red Fish to see how they leverage the relationshipd with the people that donate once ... particularly to see if you can create a long lasting relationship over the phone.
