Just had an interesting exchange from a fellow futurist about how the information exchange interfaces of the future will function. I told him I see the emergence of the virtual village. I see an entire offering of electronic services being offered is a single interface that takes the shape of a town square. Through secured Avatars individuals can make restaurant reservations, bay bills, and place service calls to plumbing and telephone providers. The capacity to minimize commerce to single location may change the way we interact with our economy. With a centralized location for commerce architecture could play a huge influence on which vendors survive and which fail. However I wonder if we will miss those impromptu conversation in the line at the bank, or waiting for a table?
