Maybe authors who, now, decide to post their material online, should have the option (through something related to creative commons?) to decide if their material will remain in the public domainor not. Otherwise, as you say, the corporate arms behind the artists will alwas try to put their hands on the material.

I agree that the artist should have the right to decide what hapens with their music. I sugest that you go look at Creative Commons where artists and creators are able to decide what type of rights they want to reserve.
