I am late to see this post from The Cancer Blog but it deserves a comment. Trish helped us out on our summer blogoshpere search for cancer blogs and I am excited about the launch of her own site Blogging For a Cause.
As a medium the blog is a fantastic conversational tool that can allow individuals to express and connect with others in a fairly safe medium. Blogs are helping people find others in similar predicaments and situations and I think that the power of search and indexing is creating searchable information for the people who need it most. I feel that each improvement in tags, indexing, and other tools help those who desperately need to find a compatriot to share their experience with and not feel isolated and alone. The development of community around blogs is a positive step, and I am excited that the Society is employing new technology to improve the overall communal experience for the patient, survivor, caregiver and physician. We are investing in community tools such as portals, blogs, virtual community systems, and badges in order to enhance the our constituents experience and build stronger relationships with them.
Randy, thanks so much for this. Trish
