Myspace Records has released volume 1 ... a collection of music that has 'made it' courtesy of the networking site and some other big name alternative bands. I am curious to see who it is that is producing this album, the record company that is pressing and licensing the music from the various record labels. Unique that the record industry is not able to its self away from the tangible record / CD model and sell digital wares exclusively. Ironic since I assume that overwhelming majority of Myspace users are tech savvy enough to have MP3 players and would probably prefer less expensive digital music. In addition I would wager that the vast majority of the songs on Volume 1 were once available on free players on the band's own Myspace page. This was what is so great about the system - the chance to self promote their music! So Volume 1 makes sense ... take something that was previously free and charge everyone that is not an early adopter once there is a demand. Frankly I think it is not a bad business model.
Hey Man,
Actually the two guys that founded MySpace were in bands and they produced the album. They founded MySpace after their bands flopped and to help out other struggling muscisans.
