This Thursday at 5pm SL time PopSci.com (Popular Science) and Creative Commons are hosting a Popular Science Concert inside Second Life. As such the content of the show will be licensed under a CC 2.5 license for recording, and redistribution. Those featured will include some SL and RL entertainers.
Joi Ito makes a fantastic point - that community need not be a physical world
manifestation. It seems all you really needs is collective shared experience.
On top of that throw in a socialization element and you are ripe for community
building. SL encourages residents to be emotive and share and express.
I'd like to hear other thoughts on the power of such a platform as it moves
forward and becomes more powerful.
