TrendSpotter has a very cool breakdown of the recent research on online advertisements and their impact on select younger male audiences. The interesting bits of th research I latched onto were that the 'gamers' are quickly becoming media influencers. As a trend, as media drifts more towards digital entertainment it is natural that the gamer will become the media know-it-all in a given social circle. A few interesting facts were that:
- 37% of gamers said friends and family relied upon them to stay up-to-date about movies, TV shows and the latest entertainment news, compared to only 22% for non-gamers.
- gamers are early adopters of technology and gadgets: 39% were indicating that friends and family rely upon them to stay up-to-date about the latest technology.
This being the case, it is logical that marketing and product awareness should be focusing creative assets towards identifying the best way to present information and purchase opportunities to these fast developing market. The survey showed a near 40% higher household income in gaming households, and that is significant purchasing power.
I'm amazed that gamers have high influences when it comes to media and entertainment these days! For sure, they could be one of the most reliable sources when we want to know more about the latest gadgets of today.
