I am a big fan of the idea behind crowdsourcing. As someone who is now getting into focus group research i find the idea of crowdsourcing even cooler an a few levels. Those who participate are often the most passionate about the product, not just the process. I have doubts that someone will crowdsource for the sake of participating - I think passion is a prerequisite. Next it can give a very wide demographic perspective allowing for wider reach than a local focus group. Finally the people who vote / contribute are hopefully your built in customer base and frankly should be treated to something extra nice for participating in the creation process. Kudos to VW for asking those who drive their for ideas on how to make them better through the app-my-ride corwdsourcing project.
